This morning, I found an unsubmitted post from December 2019 and I have to say, I can clearly see how fear can leave you stuck in the same place mentally and sometimes physically, if you let it. It’s so difficult to take that step towards something new and different because the feeling of familiarity is so comforting even if you’re not happy. Whatever that thing is for you that you want to change, I hope you find the courage or at least start a plan to move towards a happier, healthier you. Also, I find it hilarious that I thought 2019 was a difficult year. 2020 turned it all the way up. Clearly, I should have taken my own advice and learned some more lessons last year but some of us need tough love. I hear you, Jesus. Ya girl is finally ready for some real, grown-up change. Here is what I wrote at the end of 2019:
So I logged in today to reflect on my last posts and realized it has been a little over a year since my last post. Talk about a break. If not for these end of year celebrations, I may not have stopped to reflect on the last 365 days and this year has been a doozy.
2019 has kicked my tush in terms of work. It has been my most challenging professionally but I have also learned the most about business and myself this year and for that I am grateful. There is way too much to regurgitate here but these particular nuggets were life changing for me personally.
- I put other people on pedestals and did not extend the same courtesy to myself. Not sure if this is just my problem but I was everyone else’s cheerleader but when it came to me, doubt was the first to show up to the party. No more…
- Apparently, I am not afraid to have crucial conversations. This year tested that theory and it’s safe to say if I had an issue with you, you would have gotten a call from me. It will definitely be uncomfortable in the moment but you will feel so much better about being honest and upfront. I feel so light going into 2020 with nothing on my chest.
- I am not motivated by money, power or titles (might sound silly to others). Making a difference is a real goal that should be respected just as much as any other goal. Your girl is still trying to eat though so if my boss is reading this, you still need to pay me.
- Time with the people I care about is the most important thing to me. I need to prioritize my life so my actions speak louder than words. Definitely have some work to do on this one.
- Time with myself and God is equally as important as time with anyone else. A recharged and grateful wife, mother and friend will be much more of a blessing to others.
- God has got me covered. I worried way too much the last 36 years of my life and this year in particular He has shown me that His plan is more important than my own. I don’t need to punish the unjust and be the righter of every wrong. I will fight for what I think is right but pray for the sign to know when to let it go. I will learn my lessons without all the kicking and screaming and be ready for whatever He has prepared for me.
Whatever your lessons were this year, make sure 2020 doesn’t need to remind you of what you learned. Let’s learn new things, continue to grow and love a lot more people along the way. Wishing you and yours the best year yet!
