Have you ever wanted to try Amazing Race without the risk of embarassing yourself in front of millions of viewers? If you already live in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands or come for a visit, you HAVE to try Tropical Treasure Hunt. My little family of four did it for the 3rd time this past weekend and I couldn’t wait to share details on the blog.
What is a Tropical Treasure Hunt?
I like to think of them as a concierge adventure company. They help you plan unique experiences all centered around solving clues and puzzles to get to a final destination. The best part is that there are options. You can choose from one of their popular packages so there’s no effort on your part. Just show up and get started or the experience can be completely customized. For example, our first treasure hunt was more of a romantic theme that was just for Steve and me that included lunch at Coki beach, a spa treatment at the Ritz and ended with a surprise party at my house.
I was floored by the thoughtfulness that went into every detail. Still one of the best birthdays I have ever had. But let me tell you a bit more about last week’s adventure.
What can I expect from the Family Treasure Hunters experience?
We made sure the kids had a good breakfast because as any veteran parent knows, hungry kids are the enemy of a good time. We arrived in Havensight to meet our guide and were given and Ipad, verbal instructions and an action pack that had all the tools we would need to solve the clues. The kids were so pumped to find a UV light, decoders and puzzles but nothing was as exciting as when we actually started our quest. I don’t want to give too much away but let’s just say that Tropical Treasure Hunt has found a cool way to integrate 3D technology with the traditional idea of a treasure hunt. I think Steve and I were more blown away than the kids. You have to see it for yourself.
The clues kept every one engaged which is hard to do with a 4 and 7 year old. There were hands on clues that kids could do alone and others where parents would need to help and have the kids type into the Ipad. No one complained that they were bored. We worked as a team and were so proud watching our kids use their noggins. What I love about activities like this is that you learn more about your family, friends, etc. Jax is crazy good at puzzles and Eden can type faster than I was aware of (thanks, remote learning).
What about COVID-19?
As much fun as it was, what I appreciated the most about our adventure was how safe it was. There was no physical guide with us and in these times of “The Rona”, I need to know my family is safe. If the clue involved us going to another indoor location, there was written language that reminded us to wear our masks. I appreciate companies that are looking out for its patrons and residents. I felt completely safe the entire time. It was just us in our car, visiting different places in the Virgin Islands responsibly and having an absolute ball doing so. It took us a little over 2 hours which was got us right to lunch time. Perfection!!!
What if I am a tourist and don’t know the island that well?
And for you tourists that may not know the island that well, they have a plan for that too. There is gps built into the Ipad and your guide provides you with his/her contact information if you need any human assistance. Such a great way to see St. Thomas, Virgin Islands while making memories with your family, friends and coworkers.
This is one activity we’ll never tire of doing because there are so many ways to customize it. Definitely give it a try. You won’t regret it.
