HOW TO USE YOUR HOME TO HELP YOUR KIDS FEEL INSPIRED

Can your home reinforce lessons for you? I have enjoyed working on myself these last few months. But as a mom of two, I am so fulfilled when my kids exhibit confidence, self worth and just all around goodness. Part of parenting seems to be repeating yourself. People make memes about it but a good chunk of raising these tiny little human beings is saying things over and over again.

The goal is to get crucial lessons stuck so deep down into their minds that it becomes second nature to them. SO when they find themselves lost, they can pull it up from their filing cabinet of imparted wisdom. Well, I’m 7 years into motherhood and while I don’t mind repeating myself, I thought why not let my home take on some of that burden.

Why Minimalism is Good for Kids?

In my last post “Minimalism: What Does it Really Mean?“, I speak about how your home should represent not only what you like to see but who you are. With my kids’ bedroom, I wanted it to feel like a safe space for them to relax and a reminder of the values our family hold dear. I don’t actually care what professions they have when they get older. I will be excited and happy if they are passionate about what they have chosen and are doing good in this world.

My biggest hope is that they are good, fulfilled people. I will pour into them with as much love and light with the hopes they carry that light with them in everything they do. That’s my not-so-secret wish for them. My secret wishes will stay secret…

Now, every home is different and every parent is different so what I emphasize with my kids might not resonate with you. The point is that we have so many tools other than our voices to build our children up and we should use as many as possible to do it. Maybe then we won’t have to do as much talking (fingers crossed). Here’s how I chose to do this in their bedroom.

If you haven’t guessed by now, I’m a bit of a neutral girl. My mother thinks it’s boring. It represents peace and quiet and gives me a great base to change things around when I get bored (which happens often). I decided to add some black and white artwork to the kids’ room that would represent what Steve and I try to teach them everyday.

I purchased these frames from Amazon and used Canva to create my simple designs. Canva is super easy to use so if you have an ounce of creativity in your body, you’ll surprise yourself with what you can do. Give it a try. Hanging these up gave me a run for my money but it was absolutely worth it. I love the look and the kids love that these messages were made just for them. Over time, I can change these out with new sayings or pictures that represent how much they are loved. The black just pops against all the white which means there is no missing it when they get out of bed in the morning. They just hit you in the face first thing. Love it!!!

Seriously, though, I had so much fun with this project and it makes me smile every time I go into their room. My goal is to create that feeling all throughout my home.
