It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. I know it’s earlier than usual but it’s 2020. Normal rules don’t apply so let’s deck these halls with our own neutral and modern DIY Christmas Ornaments.
I might be a bad mom for saying this but I have high standards when it comes to DIY projects. I love when my kids build or create something from scratch but let’s be real. Not everything needs to be placed on the mantle. I put much more weight on the process than on the final product. Also, moms can tell you the sheer amount of crafts that come home from school. Ain’t nobody got space for that!
So let’s just say, I needed the activity to be easy enough for kids and cute enough for my Christmas tree. Judge if you must. Our tree stays up for months after Christmas so I’m pretty particular. For you non-judgmental folks out there, you really need to try this with your family this year especially.
These simple and modern DIY Christmas ornaments look so beautiful on our tree and honestly were very easy to make. I think they’ll make wonderful gifts that are not only personalized but also very affordable. If you want to take your gift wrapping to a new level, add these ornaments with a sprig of something green. Listen to all those boxes being checked off. Here is what you need to create your very own modern DIY Christmas Ornaments:
Supplies
- Baking tray
- Parchment paper
- Fimo polymer clay
- Rolling pin
- Baker’s twine
- Cookie cutters
- Letter stamps
- 1 Bamboo skewer
Instructions
- Set the oven to 275 degrees Fahrenheit
- Tear off half the clay and warm it up in your hands
- Roll out the clay on a smooth, clean surface to your desired thickness (1/4 inch recommended)
- Use cookie cutters to cut clay into the desired shape
- Place cut clay pieces on a parchment lined baking sheet
- Connect the letter stamps to form the desired wording (stay within 4 to 5 letters)
- Stamp the clay with medium pressure and use the rounded end of the bamboo skewer to create a small hole at the top of the ornament
- Bake for 30 minutes and let cool completely
- Thread twine through the hole and tie in a knot.
- Hang on your Christmas tree year after year for wonderful family memories!
I decided to keep mine very simple but feel free to decorate your baked ornaments with paint, sharpies and stencils.
