By now, you guys know I love a reason to get dressed up so it goes without saying that creating a Halloween costume for each one of these crazies is one of my favorite things to do. It’s all about fun, family and creativity which checks all my boxes. This year, the kids chose Trolls World Tour. We watch this movie so much that Eden can quote lines from the movie and she’s 4. It was pretty safe to say, it was a good choice for Team Lowe.
Yes. I could have purchased every single piece of our costumes from Amazon already done but there is something so charming about partially or fully homemade costumes. You can see the effort and the love even if it’s not perfect and I really enjoy the challenge of bringing these characters to life for the kids (and Steve). These people I live with have super high expectations, ok?
I wasn’t going to tackle the troll hair on my own. I do have boundaries so I ordered all of our wigs from Amazon. If you’re interested in creating your own Troll Halloween costume someday, I’ll link the materials below each character.
Poppy Troll Halloween Costume

Eden, of course, requested to be Poppy. It matches her personality so well and she LOVES pink. I used one of her existing dresses as a pattern and hand-stitched the two pieces together (cause your girl can’t sew) and used some velcro to keep it closed at the shoulder. The appliqués were drawn out on felt with a pencil and hot glued cause that’s my superpower. Remember, we’re going for nostalgia, not perfection. That’s it. We threw this on over her pajamas and called it a day. My girl was beyond excited which made me happy!
“True Colors” Branch Troll Halloween Costume

Jackson was very specific about this one (as he is with everything). He wanted to be what I call Happy Branch once he found his true colors. So instead of being gray, he needed purple hair and blue “skin”. I couldn’t find brown shorts anywhere so we hit up Kmart (yes, they are still open in the USVI) and did a happy dance when we found ladies brown leggings. Score! Added a few patches of felt with hot glue and boom. Shorts complete. Thankfully, the shorts were easy because the vest was a BEAST. Not the vest itself which was made out of felt and hand-stitched yet again but the leaves. Thank goodness Halloween is once a year. I drew the scalloped pattern by hand, cut out each string and hot glued like crazy. Jax loved it and he’s a tough cookie so I was proud of myself.
Biggie Troll Halloween Costume (w/ Mr. Dinkles)

As we get to the parents, the level of effort usually drops. We need to be able to move around, pick people up and just generally be ready for anything so I try not to go too overboard. I ordered a women’s XL purple sweatsuit from Amazon and cut it into a vest and shorts. I stuck a cushion down Steve’s pants to give him some roundness and made him a cardboard Mr. Dinkles I colored with markers. Like I said, this was child’s play when compared to the kid’s costumes.
Tiny Diamond Troll Halloween Costume

Winner of laziest costume goes to me (#winning). Mama was getting tired, y’all. I ordered these onesie pajamas from Amazon which by the way are super soft and comfortable. These have now become my new favorite pj’s. The green tinted glasses from Amazon already came with white troll hair. Took me 3 seconds to turn into Tiny Diamond but he’s like 90% attitude anyway. Can you feel the energy?
I hope we were able to make you smile this Halloween. We sure had a blast ourselves and will be thoroughly celebrating Friday and Saturday with some socially-distant activities.
