I can’t believe it’s the week of Thanksgiving already. I feel like it was just Halloween. This second half of the year is flying by. I think it’s probably because there are just so many wonderful things happening this time of year that we’re living from one event to the next. And while I can get all caught up in the busyness of life too, I do try to take some time to stop, look around and just breathe in all the goodness. This week is all about giving thanks and based on the year that I’ve had, I have so much to be grateful for. So as not to keep you here all day, here are 3 things I am thanking God for every single day!
1. Obedience
I used to think that just being a good person was enough. I mean it’s a good start but that’s not all God wants from us. You know that voice in your head telling you that you can “fill in the blank”? That voice you keep ignoring everyday because you’re scared or lack confidence. You’re supposed to try that thing and see where it leads. It may not take you to the destination you have in mind but the journey alone will be worth it. I don’t know where I’m headed but I am learning more and more that trusting Him is enough. In the meantime, I’m going to focus on showing up and putting in the work in preparation for whatever opportunity arises.
2. Love
I started this year thinking I might not have much more time here and all I could think about were the little things: good conversation, warm hugs and sweet “I love you’s”. These were the moments that kept running through my mind. The ones that made my heart sing and ache all at the same time because I didn’t know how many more I would get. You know what I wasn’t thinking about? My to-do list or work projects. Not to say those things aren’t important but are they as high up on the list as I used to place them? This year has shown me that it’s a hard no for me but I’ll let you come to your own conclusion.
3. Reflection
I struggled with what to call this but all roads lead to living with intention. I was living like a zombie before cancer. There were so many questions I never even bothered to ask myself. I was so busy trying to know (and please) everyone else that I didn’t make the time to understand what made me happy, sad, motivated, etc. Learning about myself has led to more educated decisions about my life, what opportunities I should take and which I should turn down. It’s challenging but I can already see and feel a difference when I take the time to align my actions with my values. I hope it’s a skill that I can refine over time but I’m so thankful for the opportunity to practice.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Before I go, I want to wish you and your family a Thanksgiving filled with joy, laughter and new traditions. Sometimes, I get inspired to create something for my own family and I always love sharing it with you. I created 3 Thanksgiving Day printables that will kickstart some fun and great conversation with the people you love the most.
