2 NETFLIX DOCUMENTARIES THAT WILL MAKE YOU QUESTION HOW MUCH MEAT AND DAIRY YOU EAT

September 9, 2020 · In: Nurture

Watching Netflix documentaries can be dangerous. You know why? Because not knowing is comforting. The saying is ignorance is bliss. Once you know more, most of the time, you feel compelled to do better. Curse you, intelligence!

Steve and I watched not one but two documentaries on the effect of a predominantly animal based diet and the benefits of moving towards a plant-based one. We watched Game Changers and What the Health. If you’re not ready to grapple with this decision right now for whatever reason, then maybe just add it to your list for 2021.

I promised to be honest on this site. I don’t know exactly what to do after getting this information. I LOVE bacon and shrimp, y’all. I could easily give up chicken, beef and other pork products. I don’t even like milk or eggs but I am obsessed with the foods they create: french toast and macaroni & cheese are good examples. Here I am conflicted. As a mom, I want to make sure my family is healthy but as a human being, it’s HARD (insert crying emoji). Not only do I love eating meat and dairy, all the recipes I grew up with include (you guessed it), meat and dairy down to the maggi aka bouillon cubes. So here’s my plan (today). I will cook a meatless meal at least twice a week. Steve seems more ready to take the plunge but guess who cooks for the family? So this mama will need a more phased approach. Crawl, walk, run as they say in consulting…

I made lentils masala (click for recipe) last night and this recipe is now Lowe family approved. If you try it, let me know your thoughts and how you switched it up for your family.

I’m not sure where this new information will lead us but we are taking steps towards eating better. Subscribe to get updates on any benefits or downsides we notice as a family. If you have any vegan recipes you would like to share or accounts on social media I should follow, please post it in the comments. Let me just restate this because I love food SO much. I am a Caribbean girl who needs her meals to be full of flavor so no salt and pepper only recipes please. Thank you. As with everything, I will take it one day at a time and pray a whole lot. Stay healthy, friends!
